Former Pupils play Minto - New!

old schoolMinto Golf Club hosted the eighteenth year of the Scottish Schools Former Pupils' Border Golf Competition.  Played at The Hirsel in recent years, the competition moved to Minto last Sunday (13th June) as two of the participants are Minto members. Four schools were represented - Heriot's, Watson's, St Mary's and Merchiston although some of the players also had links to Robert Gordon's College and Loretto.  Minto's Tom Kerr played for Watson's while Duncan Shiell flew the flag for Heriot's.

Competitions included Scratch, Stableford and Team.  Some of the teams included current staff members as well as old boys.

The scratch prize was won by Simon Blair representing St Mary's.  Simon shot a gross 78.

The Stableford prize went to Gareth Baird of Merchiston.

For the first time ever, the team prize was a tie between Watson's and Heriot's each with a 3 man Stableford score of 87.  St Mary's took third place.

The competition will return to Minto next year, again the Sunday immediately after Hawick Common Riding, when it is hoped more schools will be able to field teams.

Anne Paterson, Minto Ladies Vice Captain was persuaded to present the prizes - thank you Anne.   We are also grateful to May Sinclair for taking some photographs of the post match events. Anne and  May were still enjoying the Minto High Tea when the golfers came in.  There's one photograph of a successful High Tea social event as well as photographs that show a number of the golfers, the trophy table, the presentations to Gareth Baird and the winning Heriots and Watsons captains as well as a photograph of the Ladies table.
