Juniors Prizegiving - Updated!

06 jpg 2016Minto Juniors completed their 2016 season on Sunday (25th September) with competitions for all ages and abilities followed by the annual prizegiving ceremony.  Junior Captain Frazer Towers was unfortunately unable to attend now that he has started his studies at St Andrews University.  Junior Convener and Captain's dad, Angus Towers, took over the master of ceremonies duties and immediate past Ladies Captain Sue James presented the prizes.

As we didn't have a video link to Frazer in St Andrews (a la Sports Personality of the Year), Angus welcomed everyone with a speech written by Frazer.   Very good golf was played by all the Juniors.

The Juniors are very appreciative of all the support they receive from the Club and its Adult Members.  Angus mentioned a large number of individuals (staff and members) who have willingly given time and sponsorship to help Juniors develop.

There was special thanks for Mary Towers who set up all the competitions, helped with handicaps and organised prizes for the Open and Sunday's event.

Sue James who presented the prizes, qualified as a Level 1 Clubgolf coach in the Spring and has been nurturing our younger members on the practice range on Friday evenings.  Sue is also heavily involved in press reporting and club marketing including the Ladies Get into Golf initiative and she also organised the very successful Open Day in early September when we recruited twenty eight new members including three juniors.  If the prizegiving inspires anyone to take up the wonderful game of golf then please talk to Sue.

After presenting the many prizes and trophies to junior prize winners, Sue James paid tribute to those who had made the Minto’s junior section such a success. The juniors themselves have played well and improved their golf and had done so in the true spirit of the game. Lily Towers not only received a number of junior section prizes but received the Ladies Silver Division Club Championship Trophy for the second successive year – a remarkable achievement.

Sue said that Frazer Towers, the outgoing Junior Captain left a message wishing Ross Nichol a successful year as Captain in 2017. We acknowledge here his important service to the club both as Junior Captain, and as a valued member of the club’s Marketing Committee.

Sue also thanked the volunteer coaches, Richard Allott, Daniel Murdoch and Neil Richards for their dedicated work on Friday evenings in helping to develop the juniors’ golfing skills and the families and friends of Minto’s young golfers for their ongoing support.

She said that all at the club owed Angus Towers, the Junior Convenor, and Mary Towers a huge debt of gratitude for their work in guiding the junior section to success over the last ten years, and she looked forward to some of the current youngsters following in the footsteps of previous junior members in playing golf at international level!

We have a few pictures from the prizegiving.
