Junior Section Strategy 2016

Minto has a very strong Junior Section and the Club ias a whole s proud of the achievements of everyone involved with the management and performance of the Junior Section.  The results on the Course are achieved by the Junior Members themselves but there is a tremendous amount of hard work put in by those Adult Members who manage the Section and coach the Juniors.  The Junior Section review their Strategy every year and amend it in the light of changing circumstances.  The full Strategy for 2016 can be seen below

Junior Coaching

We have 3 Level 1 Clubgolf coaches (soon to be 4), and a Level 1 Advanced coach, all who have a number of years of experience.

In 2015 over 20 juniors were given coaching by our Clubgolf coaches.

The juniors progressing to get a handicap receive lessons from Frank Scott European PGA qualified coach, at the start of the season.

The Juniors with handicaps also receive lessons from Frank Scott, on the course.

There is a good practice area with a 200 yard range. There is a practice putting green and a practice bunker. The practice area has a driving net, and a chipping green has been developed.

There is a Junior noticeboard. There is no specific section of the Clubhouse designated for the Juniors, however they are made to feel welcome in all areas.

There is a comprehensive schedule of competitions for the Junior Section. These are mainly played on a Friday evening.

On most Friday evenings there is a pre handicap Junior night. The juniors are split into two, with a 6 hole competition played from either the 100 yard or 150 yard markers, dependent on ability.

In 2016 an intermediate 9 hole competition will be played from the red tees to prepare juniors to move up to the 18 holes, and to give them an official handicap.

There is no age limit for moving up to the full 18 Hole competition. Both the player and the Junior Convenor must be satisfied that the individual can cope with walking a full round and not hold back their playing partners. A requirement is to be able to play 18 holes in under 115 shots.

Juniors can play in adult competitions (with some exceptions) if their handicaps are less than 24 for boys and 36 for girls.

Policies and Procedures

We have a Child Protection Policy in place.

The Club Constitution covers the Junior Section as well.

We have a Junior Captain and Vice Captain, elected by the current Captain. These positions form part of the Junior Committee. The Junior Captain is encouraged to be involved in as many aspects of the section as he wants. This includes running the competitions, maintaining handicaps, and encouraging other Juniors to enter the competitions.
