Gents Seniors June Medals - Results!

Competition IconThe second round of Seniors Medals in the 2017 season were played on Monday 5th June.  The weather conditions were not very pleasant and the number of competitors was down on the May turnout.  We had twenty Seniors playing in the eighteen hole medal and five in the nine hole event compared with twenty-eight and six last month.  John Lunn coped with the weather better than anyone else as he returned a net 66, four clear of Allan Swanston in second place.  Last months winner Charlie Oliver completed the top three with a 71.

Sorry for the slight delay in publishing results but there is a problem with the update from the handicap system to the How Did I Do website from where I usually copy and paste the results.  I've tried to publish the results twice without success so far.  I did get a personal e-mail from How Did I Do telling me my position in the competition so some data has got through.  Update [7/6] - now successfully published. Can other Seniors registered with How Did I Do e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to say if they have received any notification about results.  Only one golfer will get notification of a handicap change in the eighteen hole medal as the scoring meant the competition was classified as reductions only.  There was one reduction, John Lunn will be playing his next medal off 17 rather than 18.

In the nine hole Stableford medal, John Biggar was the clear winner on 17 points.  Forrest Scott was second with Bill Henderson third.

As we are now two medals into the six scheduled for 2017 we can look at standings in the McKinnon Trophy which is awarded to the Senior with the best aggregate of four rounds in the Seniors Medals series.  The Trophy standings are shown below the 18 and 9 hole results from June.  If a golfer didn't play a medal or returned an NR then he is credited with a score of 200 to ensure that that the sort works properly.  The table is currently sorted by the best aggregate of the two medals played.  Not surprisingly, the top two positions are held by the two winners of the May and June medals.  Charlie Oliver just leads John Lunn by 1, 133 to 134  As the season goes on, the consistent players come to the fore.  It is quite possible to win the McKinnon Trophy without winning any of the medals.  Pat Jubb is currently third on 140.

The next Seniors Medals (9 and 18 holes) are planned for Monday 3rd July.  Entries (online and on paper) will open soon.  Let's hope for summer weather for the July medal; The sun has been notable absent from the first two medals.

Seniors May Medals - 8th May

The 2017 series of Gents Senior Medals got underway today (Monday 8th May) with a bumper turnout of thirty-four Seniors - twenty-eight in the 18 Hole Medal and six in the 9 Hole Medal.  The 9 Hole Medal is designed to increase participation and help ensure that everyone plays to an appropriate handicap.  The forecasters were talking about a heatwave further South today.  it certainly didn't venture North to Minto.  A bitterly cold wind greeted the early starters.

However, it didn't affect some of the earliest starters as Charlie Oliver stormed round for a very impressive net 62 and Alec Lauder shot a net 66  Two of the most consistent Seniors, Pat Jubb and John Lunn had to be separated by use of the countback algorithm as both recorded net 68s.  Pat took third place.

Not surprisingly, Charlie had his handicap cut, by 2, and he will play his next competition off a handicap of 26.

Congratulations to John Morris on just pipping Michael Cooper to take the honours in the 9 Hole medal.  The 9 Hole Medal is scored as a Stableford as required by the Scottish Golf Union and Handicapping rules.  Both John and Michael scored 15 points for 9 holes.

The scores in the 18 hole medal will be converted to Summer League scores using Summer League handicaps over the next couple of days and the league table will be updated accordingly.

The next Seniors Medal is scheduled for Monday 5th June when a few of the early start times will be shared with a Ladies Medal.  Consequently the onlien entry form will offer slightly different choices from normal for tee times 08:45 to 09;50 and 10:50 to 11;10

After the June Medal we will start showing positions in the Seniors McKinnon Trophy which is awarded to the golfer with the aggregate of four Seniors Medals in any year.
