Seniors Outings 2017 - Iain Oliver retains the Whiteley Trophy

dunstanburgh iconSeniors went to the seaside for their second outing of 2017 last Thursday (13th July) when sixteen Members visited Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club.  Conditions were a bit challenging in terms of a sea breeze but the sun shone and it was warm..  The conditions didn't affect Iain Oliver though as he retained the Whiteley Trophy following his win on the West Linton outing earlier this year. Scores on this occasion varied from 19 to 37 with Iain's 37 heading the field by two shots..

Countback was needed to resolve second place as both Jim Adams and Alister Legge recorded 35 points.  Jim just had the better inward half.

As always, there were prizes for nearest the pin at three holes, (two par 3s and a nearest the pin at the18th  from off the green in less than 6 shots.  These prizes were won by Ray Johnson, Tam Glendinning and Angus Scott.

Jim Welsh does a stalwart job in arranging the Seniors Outing and we are very grateful to him for his work.

Full details of scoring at Dunstanburgh is shown below.  The final outing of the year will take us back to East Coast, this time at Seahouses on Thursday 28th September.  Jim will put up a sheet ion the Changing Room.   For details of Seahouses Golf Club click on the Seahouse logo below the West Linton report.

West Linton Outing - 11th May

The first Gents Seniors Outing of the year was a very pleasant trip to West Linton Golf Course located beside the Pentland Hills a few miles South of Edinburgh.  Twenty-two Seniors made the trip and found a course where the ball ran along way.  As ever on an outing ,the Stableford scores varied fairly widely,in this case from 17 to 38.

The winner could only be decided on countback and resulted in a triumph got Iain Oliver, playing off his new handicap of 6.  John Lunn also scored 38 but his split (23 out, 15 in) to Iain's 21 out, 17 in.  Iain becomes the first holder of the Whiteley Trophy in 2017 and he celebrated by filling it with Drambuie and circulating it around everyone who played.  Thanks Iain.

West Linton were excellent hosts with all Seniors enjoying coffee and bacon rolls before the golf and a sizeable two course meal afterwards.  The sun shone, the wind stayed down and the scenery was superb.  All in all, a good start to the outings season.  Thanks to Jim Welsh for organising the day.
