Seniors Outings 2017 - Iain Oliver scores 3 out of 3!

seahousesSeniors were out with their buckets and spades again as their third and final outing of 2017 took them back to the seaside at Seahouses Golf Course.  The Course may have changed throughout the season but the dominance of Iain Oliver didn't as he recorded three wins out of three with his 36, best inward half.  Iain's better back nine relegated Drew Minto and Ron Elliot to second and third places even although they both scored 36 also. Iain therefore retains the Barry Whitely Trophy. Barry Whiteley was a stalwart of Minto and Minto Seniors for many years and his family donated a Trophy in his memory.

Sorry for the delay in reporting the results on the website, but I think I have now caught up on all outstanding reports covering Minto  events whilst I was abroad.

Not surprisingly, if we look at the best scores over all three Outings this year, we find that Iain Oliver leads the field by a massive 18 points.  Seven Seniors played in all three outings with Ron Robertson coming second overall on 93, just ahead of David Howden on 92.

There were two nearest the pin prizes; these went to Ron Elliot and Pim McDonnell.

Results of the Seahouses outing can be found immediately below.  After that there is a table showing overall positions after three Outings.  Further below are results of Dunstanburgh and West Linton.

This has been another enjoyable season of Seniors Outings.  Thirty one Seniors played on one or more Outings.  These Outings take place thanks to the organisation work of Jim Welsh for which all Seniors are very grateful..  Jim is already looking to next year with Outings pencilled in for May [Haddington], July [Broomieknowe] and September [Eden].  Exact dates and details will follow later.

West Linton Outing - 11th May

The first Gents Seniors Outing of the year was a very pleasant trip to West Linton Golf Course located beside the Pentland Hills a few miles South of Edinburgh.  Twenty-two Seniors made the trip and found a course where the ball ran along way.  As ever on an outing ,the Stableford scores varied fairly widely,in this case from 17 to 38.

The winner could only be decided on countback and resulted in a triumph got Iain Oliver, playing off his new handicap of 6.  John Lunn also scored 38 but his split (23 out, 15 in) to Iain's 21 out, 17 in.  Iain becomes the first holder of the Whiteley Trophy in 2017 and he celebrated by filling it with Drambuie and circulating it around everyone who played.  Thanks Iain.

West Linton were excellent hosts with all Seniors enjoying coffee and bacon rolls before the golf and a sizeable two course meal afterwards.  The sun shone, the wind stayed down and the scenery was superb.  All in all, a good start to the outings season.  Thanks to Jim Welsh for organising the day.
