Winter Mixed 10-holeTexas Scramble - December event

texas flagThe third event of the Winter Series of monthly mixed 10-hole Texas Scrambles took place today (11th December) in cold, but calm conditions.  Although it was a bit damp underfoot as the fairways thawed, the main greens remained unsuitable for play, so Winter Greens and the two putt rule were in play.  There were sixteen players, giving is four four-balls.  The handicaps of each team were well balanced with a 10.2, a 10.4 and two 10.7s.  Three of the four returned net scores of under 30 against a par of 37 (3rd hole played as par 3).and the fourth was only just over 30.

However, one of those three teams 30 was in a different league from everyone else.  With a gross 34 and a handicap of 10.2, Alister Mackenzie, Alan Armstrong, Dale Ploughman and Ann Witherington were 3.5 shots ahead of the second placed team. A 3 at the first to the Winter Green is very impressive.golf.  There were no 5s on the card, only 3s and 4s.  The only minor blemish on an otherwise faultless card was a 4 at the par 3 6th.  Well done to the winners!

Full results of the day are shown below with pictures of the three leading teams after the results.

November Event

There were twenty one players in the November Texas Scramble, an excellent turnout given the damp conditions.  With twenty one players, three four-balls and three three-balls took to to the course.  handicaps were adjusted to ensure fairness and equity between the three and four balls.  It was very close at the top with two teams initially tied on 29.7 points, so countback came into play.

With the better inward half, the winning team was  Alan Armstrong, Joyce Michie, Marilyn Adams and Eddie Berridge

Second placed were Sue Williams, Colin Gibson, Cherry Thom and Tam Glendinning

In third place w, close behind, on 30.6 were Jill Woolfenden and Marion King

October Event

The annual winter series of Mixed Texas Scrambles got off to an excellent start yesterday, Tuesday 30th October, when eighteen members took to the course.  We had an even split of Ladies and Gents.  Teams were constructed to try and balance the total handicaps, although the logic failed a bit with one team who had a handicap1.3 higher than anyone else. We'll tweak the algorithm next month!.  It really was a Winter event as it was cold and foggy when we started

Fortunately, the fog lifted as the first drives were played and the temperature increased a bit.  After the play, everyone gathered in the Clubhouse to congratulate the prizewinners.

The results were as shown below:

Team Members

Joan McLaren, Colin Gibson, Duncan Shiell and David Squirrell

Mary Glendinning, Trish Kirkpatrick, Tam Glendinning & Dale Ploughman

Janice Cambridge, Angela Trueman and Alister Mackenzie

Cherry Thom, Janet Kyle and Albert Thompson

Joyce Michie, Jill Woolfenden, Eddie Berridge and George Thom

The Scramble is a monthly event running from October to March.  It is usually played on the last Tuesday of the month, so the next one takes place on Tuesday 27th November.  December is always different. This year the December round will be played on Tuesday 11th December.

Everone is welcome to play in the Scramble.  Please turn up about 9:15 as it takes a bit of time to sort out the teams before teeing off at 10:00am.  Don't worry about your handicap.  This is a bit of fun that gets people out onto the course whatever their handicaps.

Thanks to Joyce Michie and Albert Thompson for the photographs below>  There doesn't seem to a photograph of the winners available.
