Mixed Winter League - Week 2

22 feb16 (2016 02 15 16 24 49 UTC)We had an encouraging turnout of fifteen members for the second week of the 2018/19 Mixed Winter League.  Sunday was by far the busiest day.  Most people played to their handicap this weekend with nearly 50% of the field taking an unchanged handicap into future weeks.  There were two scores in the 30s this week with Duncan Shiell on 32 just pipping Gordon Ferguson by 1 point.  Both see their handicaps fall by 3.  Angus Towers also received a handicap cut  of 1 for his 27

The League is played over thirteen holes, 1 and 7 to 18 so the par Stableford score is 26.   Paul was seen oputting out the mats this week, so it looks like all the Winter Tees will soon be in play.  hen that happens, there is likely to be a surge of scores in the 30s initially before handicap cuts take effect.

After two weeks we can produce a League table, based on the single best score to date.  Next week we'll look at the aggregate of the best two scores and every two weeks we will up the the number of scores we aggregate until we reach eight where it will stay until the ends of the competition.  Week 2 scores were generally better than Week 1 so the table is mainly based on Week 2 scores as shown below.  Scores each week are recorded through the PSI screen on the Lounge Bar computer and live results can be seen on the Members App / Hub and on How Did I Do.

Full rules are displayed in the Changing Rooms.  There is one amendment to those rules due to the way ClubV1 can handle the ladies bonus of 3 shots.  Rather than adding 3 to the total, ClubV1 increases Ladies handicaps by 3 so players have to record a valid Stableford score at the three holes where the extra shots apply.

Weekend 1 27/28 October

The first weekend of the 2018 / 19 Mixed Winter League was played this weekend.  Six players ventured out on Saturday and four on Sunday.  The temperature was low on both days, but the course was in good condition.  Only two players have escaped a handicap increase as a result of the first week's play.  Anne Paterson and Ricky Tait both returned 25 Stableford points for the thirteen holes played.  Anne had the better back nine and she takes the honours.  Scores of 25 and 26 are the only two scores that mean no change to a League handicap (up or down).  For other scores, every 2 points above or below par (26) results in a handicap decrease or a handicap increase.

After round  1 there were eight handicap increases.  Note the handicap changes only apply to the Mixed Winter League.  There is no change to national handicaps

Please note that we are trying to make as much use of ClubV1 functions as we can this coming year, we are going to have to handle the Ladies Winter League bonus slightly differently.this year.

Instead of adding three points to a Ladies score after the round is completed, ClubV1 is set up to score the card using a handicap three higher than the actual Winter Handicap.  This week, Anne Paterson's card was score using a handicap of 28, while both Nancy Allinson's and Joyce Michie's card were scored using a handicap of 32.  This extra 3 will be applied by the software each week.  This may not produce the same scores as the method used in previous years, but ClubV1 is unable to emulate the way we scored before.

The Winter Handicaps will be set properly this week after the Seniors Summer League finishes and players (apart from one or two Seniors who play both the Mixed and Seniors Leagues) can assume that their winter handicaps are being managed appropriately for the Mixed Winter League.  After a couple of weeks we can generate a table from ClubV1 based on the aggregate of the best x scores from y events.  Next week for instance we will show the League based on the best score from two events.  Every two events we will increase x, so after weeks  3 and 4 the aggregate will be based on the best 2 from 3 or 4 events and weeks 5 and 6 will show aggregate of best 3 from 5 or 6 events and so on until we get to the aggregate of the best 8 from the remaining events.  The aggregate scores table will be published to How Did I Do.  In week 1, the table is simply the results of Week 1.
