Minto Golf Club - How Did I Do, ClubV1 and BRS

how do I iconThis article contains a few videos that try to explain how to make the best use of How Did I Do, ClubV1 and BRS and why it will be beneficial to Members and Club Officials alike if we all make the optimum use of the facilities available to us.  We know that some Members are not keen on anything that involves usernames and passwords, so the first two videos focus on how to enter Medals using only the Lounge Bar laptop with touchscreen entry.  Other videos show the power of ClubV1 and BRS in particular and illustrate how you can be in complete control of your membership and golf data and access it whenever you wish.

The more you use the various systems, the easier they become.  Please feel free to explore.  If you run into difficulties just contact me on webmaster@mintogolf.co.uk and I'll try and respond as quickly as I can.  Please also ask me at the Clubhouse if there are things that are unclear in the videos.

This is a longer article than most you will find on the website, but there is a lot to demonstrate.  In particular, the final ClubV1 video is nearly 20 minutes long.  You can use the You Tube viewer to pause or fast forward.

Minto Golf Club Applications for Club, Competition and Handicap Management

There are three software systems that are important to the smooth running of Minto Golf Club.  These are ClubV1, How Did I Do and BRS.  This article contains a number of videos to show how to sue the various systems if you don’t already know much about them.

If you wish to understand why we use these systems please scroll down below the video links.  At the vbery end of the file there is a matrix showing what you can do on the various systems available to you.

If you simply wish to know how to enter competitions on the Clubhouse laptop  or learn more about how to register and use the basics of each system, click on each of the videos below.

There are five videos.  the first two are for people who aren’t interested in anything that requires a username or password.  These two show how you can use the Lounge Bar computer to enter Medals that involve Club officials making a Draw.  The Lounge Bar laptop is the only device you can use for entry without a username and password.  If you want to enter from home you will have to register for How Did I Do.  (Video 3) If you want to use BRS you must register on BRS (Video 4).

Video 1 – Using the Player Screen Input (PSI) facility to enter Minto Drawn competitions

Please note the video shows the use of a mouse and mentions click and key.  That is because I could only create the video on a screen that did not have touch screen entry.  Everything you do on the Lounge Bar laptop that is illustrated in this video should be done by touch only.

Video 2 – How to open the PSI screen on the Lounge Bar laptop if it is not already displayed

Video 3 - How Did I Do registration

One important thing should be stressed – when registering for How Did I Do it is very important that you use the e-mail address we hold for you in the Membership section of ClubV1.  For more information on why this is necessary see the rationale behind Minto’s use of How Did I do and ClubV1 below.

Rationale behind Minto’s use of the various software systems

ClubV1 and How Did I Do are closely linked but ClubV1 / How Did I Do and BRS are independent systems and require their own usernames and passwords.  While the companies that manage these two systems do speak to each other, there is potential for future competition between BRS and an embryonic ClubV1 booking system, so It is unlikely they will offer shared access through a single logon in the foreseeable future.

We implemented BRS nearly four years ago.  How Did I Do has been around for many years and we upgraded our internal management and handicap software from Club 2000 to ClubV1 this year as the upgrades offer significant benefits to both Members and Club Officials, particularly in terms of 24/7 access to more up-to-date data from anywhere in the world.

As it is likely that the method of entry for Minto Medals will have to change next year, this is a good time to start introducing the changes and explain the two booking systems that will be used across all competitions and casual bookings.

Currently entry for Medals is through specially designed forms on the website.  Some other competitions are entered through the BRS booking system.  Maintenance of the forms and associated database tables is quite technical and is not a viable long-term solution, so we intend to make greater use of the ClubV1 management and handicap system for Medal entry in future.  We shall run the new ClubV1 system in parallel with the traditional form entry for Medal entry during August, with a view to using only ClubV1 for Medal entry in September and October.

The BRS system will continue to be used for casual booking, Open competitions and internal Minto competitions where Members can choose their exact tee time and choose their partners for pairs or team competitions.

There are many ways to access ClubV1 / How Did I Do and BRS, but all routes except one limited method of access, require a username and password.  If you are not keen on usernames and passwords, then the easiest way to enter Medals is to use the Player Screen Input (PSI) screen on the laptop in the Lounge Bar in the Clubhouse.  However, that is the only place you can use PSI entry for medals.

BRS is a long established worldwide 24/7 booking system that is understood by many golfers.  BRS is the definitive source of tee-time information for Minto.  All visitor bookings made offline – phone or e-mail – are entered into BRS as soon as they are taken.  If they are not entered immediately, the times remain open for online booking.  All competition draws made from the current entry system through Minto forms are keyed into BRS after the draw is made.  The tee sheet in the Clubhouse corridor is automatically updated from BRS every five minutes.  This is in contrast to the five-day timesheet, currently published on the website every morning, which is a snapshot of the booking system at 05:15 every morning.  The way BRS is set up at Minto means that Visitors cannot book tee times allocated to a Medal before the Draw is made.  After the Draw is made, some unused tee times may be released for visitor use.  Similar local constraints prevent Visitors from taking times set aside for pairs, triples, team and selective individual competitions like the Clubhouse Trophy, Old Course Cup and Famous Grouse.

ClubV1 does have a booking system but it is not open to the world the way BRS is and any casual bookings made in ClubV1 would have to be transferred to BRS very quickly to avoid somebody else taking the tee time in BRS.  We don’t have the resources to make that happen quickly enough.

While ClubV1 does not share a username and password with BRS, it does share with the How Did I Do service. Indeed, to log in to ClubV1 with a username and password, you must first have registered on How Did I Do as it is the How Did I Do username / password combination you will need to login to ClubV1.

Many Minto members have already registered for How Did I Do and BRS and are using the services regularly, but the instructions below should be useful for those who have yet to register.  ClubV1 and BRS can be accessed through the website or through Apps available for Apple devices (IOS operating system) and the wide range of tablets and smartphones that use the Android operating system.  How Did I Do is available directly through any browser or through an App.  The Minto website is available 24/7 worldwide, but for those of you without access to computers, tablets or smartphones, the laptop in the Lounge Bar can be used.

Instructions for registering on BRS and How Did I Do are given in the video links below.  The details of every Minto member are held in the ClubV1 membership section but are not available to other members.  There are two pieces of information you can choose to make available to other members. These are your phone number and / or e-mail address which can be useful for arranging matches or casual rounds.

After you have watched the videos, there is a set of step by step instructions in this article which also explain how the registrations can be done.

One important thing should be stressed – when registering for How Did I Do it is very important that you use the e-mail address we hold for you in the Membership section of ClubV1.  if you have received an e-mail message from Club Captain Gary McDonagh recently, then that was sent to the e-mail address that we hold for you.  If you haven’t received such an e-mail, then either we do not hold an e-mail address for you or the e-mail address we hold for you is not the one you expect.  A few of Gary’s e-mails bounced so we know of a few members where we obviously haven’t got a valid e-mail address, but, of course, we can’t contact you easily as the e-mail address doesn’t work!  There are quite a few members without e-mail addresses.  E-mail is the cheapest and most effective method for contacting members.  Please give us an e-mail address if you have one.  We are not going to release your e-mail address to a third party.  We are only going to use it to tell you about developments and initiatives at Minto Golf Club.

If you wish to download the BRS, How Did I Do and ClubV1 Apps you need to go to the relevant App store.  Go to the App Store on Apple devices and the Play Store on Android devices.  Search for BRS Golf, How Did I Do and ClubV1 Members Hub.  Follow the installation instructions.

You can register for all the systems on any device with an internet browser.  The videos show how to do things on a desktop, but the principles apply to any device or App.

For the purposes of the videos, I have created a new Minto member known as Dummy Member and will generally use Dummy and my own personal data for illustrative purposes.  The videos are You Tube videos which can be viewed on many devices.
