NewsletterIconEvery adult member of Club who has given us a valid e-mail address received a personal copy of the March 2018 newsletter yesterday (28th February).  If you haven't received a copy you can read it below.

To take your mind off the snow, there are a few events happening at the Club over the next few weeks and a few developments that that we would like to tell you about:

Sunday Carveries

Mark’s popular carveries will be served again on Sundays 11th and 25th March, from noon till 3pm on each day.  It’s simple to book; just pop into the Lounge Bar or ring the Clubhouse on 01450 870220, options 2 or 3, between 9:30am and 4pm.  Remember, during Winter Hours, until 1st April, the Lounge Bar is not open on Thursdays.

Birneyknowe Public Inquiry

A 10-day hearing into the proposed 15-turbine Birneyknowe Wind Farm project will be held at the Clubhouse in March.  The hearing will be spread over two separate weeks, firstly from Monday 5th to Friday 9th and secondly from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd.  Owing to the weather, the first day will now be no earlier than Wednesday 7th March.

During the hearing, we regret that Club Members will not be able to use the Lounge Bar.  The Course and Changing Rooms will remain open.  Changing Rooms should be accessed through the Spike Entrance using keycode 1918.  People attending the Inquiry will have access to the toilet facilities in the Changing Rooms.

We are sorry for the inconvenience the Inquiry may cause but hosting the hearing will generate valuable revenue for the Golf Club.

Members’ Evening

The annual Members’ Evening will be held this year on the evening of Wednesday 14th March when new and old Members can mingle together.  The 2018 competition season will be described along with some of the changes to the handicap and supplementary scoring rules for 2018.  The evening is a chance to find out about is happening at your Club and give us your views.  This year there will also be a live Joker Draw with the Jackpot standing at £716.

Captain Gary McDonagh is developing some further ideas to make the evening a really enjoyable one.  Come along and join in.

Extraordinary General Meeting

The Council of Minto Golf Club has called an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the Club to be held in the Clubhouse on Monday 26th March 2018 at 7:30pm.  The meeting will consider a motion to change the Management Structure of the Club and amend the Constitution.

Full details of the motion to be discussed and voted upon, together with background papers, will be available in the Lounge Bar and on the Minto Golf Club website www.mintogolf.co.uk (behind the login) from Friday 2nd March.

Under the current Constitution, only full adult members over the age of 18 who have paid, or have started to pay, their Membership Fee for 2018 will be entitled to vote at the EGM.  Honorary and Life members are also entitled to vote.

At the 2017 Annual General Meeting last November, Council was tasked with developing some Management Structure and Constitutional Change proposals for presentation to an EGM before 31st March 2018.  Members will be invited to vote for three Management Structure options, one of which is to preserve the status quo.  Depending on the outcome of the Structure vote, Members will also be asked to vote on Constitutional changes.  Some of these changes are consequent upon changes to the Structure, but there are other changes that should be considered whatever the outcome of earlier vote.

The internal competition season gets underway on Wednesday 28th March with Ladies 9-Hole Competition No 1.  We plan to hold the Billy Hughes Memorial Trophy at noon on Saturday 31st March - Easter Saturday.  This is an event open to all, including the youngest Junior members.  The event will be played over 10 holes. The first Gents competition is the April Medal, Fox & Hounds No1 on Saturday 7th April.  Full details of entry for these competitions is on the website now.  Just click on the purple Enter Medals button any page of the website.  Entry is open too for all the Matchplay competitions.

We are running a full programme of Open Competitions in 2018 and entries for these are already coming in.  Indeed, the Gents Senior Open on Tuesday 7th August is now just under 40% full.  Entries for Opens can also be made through the website.

Ordinary rounds for Members and Visitors

We realise that not everybody wishes to play in competitions, so we will be ensuring there are plenty of tee times available for standard friendly rounds of golf by Members and Visitors alike.  We would like to see as many people as possible on the Course and using the Clubhouse bar and restaurant facilities throughout the year.  We have a wonderful Course and Clubhouse, let’s encourage the maximum possible use by bringing along guests and recommending Minto Golf Course to all golfers and the Clubhouse facilities to all our friends.

Buggies, Electric Trolley and Push trolleys

We now have Electric Trolleys available for hire as well as Buggies.  These can all be booked in the Lounge Bar.  We are holding Buggy prices at £20 for one round.  Electric trolleys will be available at £7 and Push Trolleys for members will be £2.

Let’s hope the snow goes away soon and we can all get back on the Course.
